Comics to read for the Inhumans!

Comics to read for the Inhumans!

The Inhumans are coming to Marvel: Crisis Protocol! Do you want to learn more about these characters in the comics? Greg Webster has some recommendations for you!

With the teases of the upcoming Inhumans for Marvel: Crisis Protocol I’ve seen a lot of people confused about who the Inhumans (or even worse, only knowing about them from the terrible tv show) so decided to make a quick primer and give you some help with what to read. Jay and I will probably read/review these when we get to those episodes.

Background:
The Inhumans are a race of modified humans that the Kree made in order to make soldiers for their never ending wars. They were abandoned by the Kree and left to their own devices, and for most of their history tried to live secretly with their advanced technology and rigid caste system based on genetic strength. Recently, many humans with Inhuman ancestors have been transformed and gained powers, most famously Ms Marvel, who we will be seeing join the MCU soon.

Comic recommendations:
Inhumans 1998 is probably the best introduction to the Inhuman Royal Family and is a great look at the older era of how Attilan and the Inhumans worked with the wider Marvel universe. There is also an animated version of this one, titled “Marvel Knights: InHumans”, if you’re looking for something a little more accessible.

Black Bolt is an awesome character dive and shows Black Bolt having to escape from space jail with the Absorbing Man. It’s also probably the best comic portrayal of Absorbing Man as well.

Royals shows the Inhumans now, and focuses on Medusa and her family trying to survive. This one is probably the best look into the modern struggles of the Inhumans in the main universe.

EDIT: Many readers have suggested War of Kings as well. In it we see an epic space war with the Inhumans presented as one of the major space forces vying for power.
